Life is just a game
Life is all a game – because we learn everything that we need for life through play. Even the smallest of children use role play to practice important behaviours for their later adult life, while board games help to understand rules and adherence with the rules. Other games encourage the ability to think abstractly and in a joined-up manner. Depending on which game you choose, there are many varied possibilities for learning and encouragement. But of course that is not the most important part of a game. The main thing is it has to be fun!
Fun at play as quality time together
When it is dull and grey outside and rainy weather and stormy gales force us indoors, there is scarcely any better means of fending off boredom than getting the box of games out of the cupboard and simply starting to play. Playing together brings the family together, creating a sense of community and family – shared play time is quality time that is simply fun. It almost doesn’t matter what game you play – almost, because at the end of the day an attractively designed game that offers varied possibilities and promotes creativity is more fun than games with pre-defined, restrictive rules.
For example, even the youngest of children can play with building blocks, like the Holzhausen 24+1 set that you can find here in the Red Dot Shop, letting their creativity run free and discovering new worlds without any possibility of doing anything wrong or needing particular skills. Instead, children’s motor skills are trained through playing with the blocks, stimulating their urge to create and motivating them to all the time undertake new and more complex feats of construction. It goes without saying that the child can discover Holzhausen alone, but siblings, friends and parents can also join in the fun at any time, making sure that everyone can enjoy these wonderful building blocks.
It is not just for young children that being able to experience community through play is important. Older children need this too, but the games they use are of course different. For example, the Kartoni foosball table promises lots of fun and even encourages teenagers to join in the games.
Playing alone from time to time
While playing together with others is certainly the best fun, it is sometimes also really great to just play on your own. Puzzles allow for calm and relaxation while at the same time training the ability to concentrate as well as to think logically. The best example of this is the 3D puzzle from Oblo – there’s a reason why it is one of our absolute top sellers! The three-dimensional puzzle is not only fun for children. It is also ideally suited to adult puzzle fans. That is also precisely what makes it a great gift idea for adults and companies.
And we shouldn’t forget that children in particular need to learn to keep themselves occupied and to be able to play on their own sometimes. Ultimately the ability to be satisfied on one’s own is an important part of a well-balanced personality.
Playing – indoors and out
There is no question that the cold time of year is a time for board games, where families come together to play together cosily. But of course games are not just meant to be played inside; particularly when the weather is good, there is lots of fun to be had playing games outdoors. Whether its games for the garden like the My First Fiskars set of gardening tools for children or other items that can be used for outdoor entertainment – often you don’t need much to fill a day with games and fun.
